Viread is a prescription tablet formulation of Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate (300 mg strength) used in combination with other antiviral agents to treat adults with HIV-1 or chronic hepatitis B virus infection by suppressing viral replication and helping preserve immune and liver function.
Please note: a valid prescription is required for all prescription medication.
Viread contains the active substance tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF), a pro-drug of tenofovir. Tenofovir acts as a nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NtRTI), which means it interferes with the viral reverse transcriptase enzyme used by both HIV-1 and hepatitis B virus (HBV) to replicate. By stopping this step, the drug reduces the amount of virus in the body and slows the damage to the immune system and the liver.
