Effexor is used by adult patients to relieve the symptoms of:
Major depressive disorder (feeling sad, difficulty sleeping or concentrating, feeling tired, headaches, a change in appetite or weight, unexplained pain and aches)
General anxiety disorder (excessive worrying that is difficult to control)
Social anxiety disorder, also known as social phobia (fear and/or avoidance of social situations)
Panic disorder (repeated and unexpected panic attacks)
The key ingredient of the medicine is venlafaxine hydrochloride. It increases the amounts of serotonin and norepinephrine, which are natural substances in the brain that help relieve the symptoms of depression, anxiety, and panic attacks, and therefore help maintain mental balance.
