Nucynta ER (tapentadol extended-release) is an opioid pain medication indicated for the management of moderate to severe chronic pain in adults who need continuous, around-the-clock analgesia. It is also approved for neuropathic pain associated with diabetic peripheral neuropathy. The medication is available in extended-release tablets, which slowly release tapentadol over 12 hours, providing consistent pain control with fewer doses. Unlike some traditional opioids, Nucynta ER has a dual mechanism of action: it acts as a mu-opioid receptor agonist and a norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (NRI).
