Gardasil/Gardasil 9 is used only for the prevention of these conditions. The vaccine is not used to treat conditions caused by HPV.
Vaccination with Gardasil/Gardasil 9 does not eliminate the need to undergo screening for cancers caused by HPV.
Gardasil/Gardasil 9 contains highly purified, non-infectious protein for each of the HPV types (6, 11, 16, 18, 31, 33, 45, 52, and 58). Once a patient is vaccinated with Gardasil/Gardasil 9, the immune system begins to stimulate production of antibodies that help protect the body from diseases caused by the nine types of Human Papillomavirus.
This section will inform you about the proper administration of Gardasil/Gardasil 9:
Gardasil/Gardasil 9 vaccine is given as an injection by a trained medical professional.
The vaccine is administered in three doses. The second dose is given 2 months after the first (not earlier than one month after the first injection), and the third injection is given 6 months after the first one, and not earlier than 3 months after the second dose. All three doses should be administered within one year.
If a patient is between 9 and 14 years of age, the vaccine can also be administered in two doses, spaced 5 to 13 months apart. If the second dose is given less than 5 months after the first dose, the doctor must administer a third dose.
The exact dosing schedule must be determined by your doctor.
Individuals who receive one dose of Gardasil/Gardasil 9 should complete the vaccination course with the same HPV vaccine.
The vaccine is given as an injection through the skin into the muscle, preferably the muscle of the thigh or the upper arm.
If you miss a scheduled injection, talk to your doctor as soon as possible.
Gardasil/Gardasil 9 can be given with a combined booster vaccine that contains diphtheria and tetanus with either pertussis and/or poliomyelitis at a separate injection site, during the same visit.
Store the medicine in a refrigerator at a temperature between 2 ºC and 8 ºC. Do not freeze it.
Keep the syringe stored in the outer carton to protect it from light.
Keep the vaccine out of the sight and reach of children.
Do not use the vaccine after the expiry date. The date refers to the last day of the given month.
